On a rotating basis, the judges of the 22nd JDC are assigned "duty" in St. Tammany and Washington parishes. During duty weeks, the assigned judge is to available to sign orders, issue marriage license waivers, reduce bonds, approve minor settlements, etc. Litigants are required to seek the signature of the judge to whom a matter has been assigned before requesting the duty judge to sign an order. Some orders may not be appropriate for the duty judge to sign, and must be considered by the judge to whom the matter is assigned. Likewise, a person out on bond who seeks to have his/her bond reduced, is required to see the judge who set the original bond before requesting the duty judge to consider a reduction.
Judges usually rotate duty on a weekly basis, on every Saturday beginning at 8:30am.
