Divisions or Sections of Court

Description

The ten divisions will hear all civil cases in both parishes, including all civil jury trials, by random allotment. Seven of the divisions, on a rotating basis, shall hear all family cases in both parishes by random allotment.  The other three divisions shall hear all juvenile cases in both parishes.  Two divisions shall be assigned juvenile cases in St. Tammany Parish (one assigned all delinquency matters) and one shall be assigned all juvenile cases in Washington Parish.  Juvenile assignments are determined by drawing lot every three years.  Any division may hear continued custody hearings on an available basis.

There shall be one judicial commitment docket, one protective order appeal docket, and one non support appeal docket with the divisions assigned on a monthly rotating basis to those dockets.

When suits are filed which are consolidated after hearing or consent of the parties, it shall be transferred to the division to which the case with the lowest docket number has been allotted.  The consolidation order shall be signed by the Judge of the division the case is transferred from and the Judge of the division it is transferred to.
